Why is Roku Not Connecting to Internet?
This issue can occur for several reasons, and we have listed the reasons why Roku is not connecting to the internet.
Some of the most common problems are:
- Poor WiFi signal can stop play or cause performance problems.

- Additional network devices such as game consoles or computers may be using network bandwidth.
- The Ethernet cable for cable devices may be disconnected.
- In rare cases, the Roku device may fail or malfunction.

Roku is very far from WiFi
Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. WiFi signal strength can be significantly reduced in distances and maybe weakened physically in some cases.
If you are having trouble connecting to a WiFi connection on your Roku, we suggest that you bring your Roku to your WiFi router (or vice versa).
Disable Network Pings on Roku
We found that this solution solves many of the WiFi connection problems via Roku and will make you feel like a complete internet hacker!
If you disable network pings in Roku (easy configuration), you may notice a significant increase in performance. Many users report that this fixes their Roku WiFi issues! You will need to press a series of buttons on your Roku remote to open the Privacy Settings menu.
Invalid WiFi password
If you cannot connect to WiFi on Roku, you may be using an old/incorrect WiFi password. This is especially true if you have changed your router or WiFi network settings.
To verify that you are using the correct WiFi password, check your modem/router and double-check. The default password should be written on the side of your router.
The invalid IP address in Roku settings
This is not the most common reason for a Roku not to connect to WiFi, but sometimes your Roku will be set to a Manual IP address. This is wrong!
To fix this, change the Roku IP address set to Default. Once you have changed the setting, you can restart your Roku streaming device and try the wireless connection again.
Roku Overheating
It is possible (and possible) that your Roku device is constantly overheating without your knowledge.
How Do I Get My Roku to Connect to the Internet?
If your Roku is offline and tests or communication tools did not help, you can try to reconnect.
Here’s how to reconnect:
- On the Home screen, press Left on the remote control to enter a separate menu. Then, scroll down to Settings.
- Right-click on the remote control to enter Settings, then press Right again to go to Network. Press Right once to focus on the Network page.
- Scroll under Set Connection> Wireless and press OK.
- The program will perform wireless scanning on nearby networks. When done, you will see a list of available networks nearby. Check your Network in the list and press OK.
- Enter your wireless network password, scroll down to Connect, and press OK on the remote control. If your password is correct, the system will start to connect.
- If the connection is successful, the menu will disappear, and you will now see the relevant details on the About page.
- If the connection fails or you cannot connect, you will need to try other ways to resolve the problem.
