KPop star Moon Bin, better known by the stagename Moonbin, has died at the age of 25, his music label Fantagio said on Thursday.
Moon Bin, a member of the popular boy band Astro, and Moonbin and Sanha, a scrappy duo, were found unresponsive in their Gangnam, Seoul, apartment by their manager on Wednesday evening. Gangnam police have not yet released a cause of death pending an autopsy, but officials told South Korean news media it is believed he took his own life. He said there were no signs of foul play in connection with the death.
Fantagio confirms death Twitterwriting that Moon Bin “suddenly left us and became a star in the sky.”
“It is with great sadness and shock that members of Astro, Fantagio’s fellow cast members, officers and employees of the company mourn the loss of his life,” the statement said.
Moonbin is the brother of Moon Suwa, a K-pop star and member of the group Billie, who now has canceled and postponed his upcoming shows. He became successful at a young age after being included in Fantagio’s training program. He worked as a model and actor, making his debut in 2009 in the hit KBS drama, Boys Over Flowers. He joined Astro in 2016 as part of a six-member band.
Moon Bin was due to host a asia fan con tour in May but organizers have now announced that it has been canceled in light of his death.
The singer and actor has joined a growing number of South Korean stars who have died young. Last week, 26-year-old actress Jung Chae-yul was found dead in her home but her cause of death is not publicly known.
