In September 2022, the market share of mobile operating systems held by Google with Android OS in the United Kingdom (UK) stood at 50.43 percent. Smartphone penetration rates and the number of smartphone users have been on the rise for quite some time, and Apple and Android have dominated the smartphone market since inception. However, the growth rate of smartphone penetration has declined in the last few years.
It seems that most consumers buy a new smartphone because their old device is out of date. Some consumers chose to buy a new phone because their device was defective, others because they wanted the most up-to-date device. Either way, it’s clear that most consumers prefer to buy a new smartphone at least once every five years. Of course smartphone makers also often come out with new models.
