Wish you could tweak that text? WhatsApp is letting users edit messages

LONDON – Wish you could rewrite that lewd text message you just sent?

WhatsApp is allowing users to do this up to 15 minutes after sending a message. The popular chat app announced in a blog post on Monday that users can fix misspellings, add more details or otherwise change what they’ve sent to friends, family and colleagues.

The ability to edit messages has rolled out to people around the world and will be available to all users in the coming weeks, according to the company owned by Facebook parent Meta.

To correct a text, touch and hold the sent message and select “Edit”. After the changes, it will display “Edited”, but message recipients will not be able to see the edit history, WhatsApp says.

Apple revealed the ability to edit and unsend iMessages between iPhones in a system upgrade last year. On the receiving end they see that a message was not sent and have edited history, the company said.
