England defender Lucy Bronze is feeling “really good” despite suffering a knee injury in Barcelona’s win against Chelsea in the Women’s Champions League.

Seeing Bronze limping off the pitch at Stamford Bridge would have been a major concern for Lionesses manager Sarina Wigman ahead of the World Cup, especially with Leah Williamson and Beth Mead ruled out of the tournament with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

The right-back returned to the bench in the middle of the tunnel in the second half after going down with ice on his knee, which was a positive sign, and further encouragement from Barcelona manager Jonathan Giraldez that Bronz had escaped serious injury after the match. .

“He’s normal, he’s fine,” Giraldez said. “At the moment it was bad and we made a replacement. But now it’s really good.”

Willemsen was ruled out of the World Cup on Friday after Arsenal/S lost to Manchester United in the Women’s Super League last week.
