Eight people were shot Friday night in Washington, D.C., including a 12-year-old girl, police said.

Andre Wright, assistant chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, told reporters that all of the people injured in the shooting that happened on Lebaum Street SE and Second Street SE around 10 p.m. are expected to survive.

Witnesses said a shooter or shooters in a black sedan “went through the block and fired indiscriminately at people here on Lebaum,” Wright said.

As officers were on the scene where several people were shot, police were notified of another shooting on Second Street, where a 12-year-old was shot, he said.

Wright said the girl had suffered injuries to her lower limbs.

“Thank God, she is also stable and not life-threatening,” he said.

The investigation was still in its early stages Friday night but Wright said that due to the close proximity of the two locations, it is likely that the scenes of the shooting are connected.

He asked anyone with information to contact the police.

Wright said seven people were shot on Lebaum St. and police believe the bullets came from the sedan.

Police are still investigating what happened at the second location.

“It’s a lovely night. There were people hanging out here, and there were people talking about the 2nd Street scene,” Wright said.

He added: “And for some reason you had some people who think it was okay to fire a firearm at multiple individuals in two separate scenes. And we will not let that stand.”
